Ghost People stands as a tour diary from Martyn’s globe-spanning schedule over the last two years. While the intensely detailed and layered precision of his sound stays the same, the album soars from the depths of Great Lengths’ insularity, and heads for the dancefloor, giving hints of the sounds and memories he’s picked up along the way. Ghost People walks a tightrope between joyful liberation and deep speculation, as heard in the spaciousness and atmosphere of “Bauplan”, or the sublime wanderings of “I Saw You At Tule Lake”, in contrast to the duality of “Popgun” (which nods back and looks forward simultaneously) or the warehouse-suited “Horror Vacui”.
“’Ghost People’ is also about being on the road for a long time, and seeing how you cope with situations. I try to zen my way through it, and just stay focused on my music.”
